When my wife Kim and I were approaching the occasion of our 50th wedding anniversary, I wanted to find something to commemorate the occasion that would be special to both of us yet something that could not be bought at a store. I knew that a very good friend of ours, Pam Davison, had launched a business creating unique stained glass art pieces and my perusal of many of her works convinced me that this might be the answer.

This was going to be a surprise for Kim so I contacted Pam and gave her some general ideas of what I wanted her to create. Basically, we both love to watch cardinals and blue jays in our backyard so this was the “theme” I asked Pam to work with. Pam and I settled on the price range, and she went to work. After discussion, we settled on the final design which featured a cardinal and a blue jay on a leafy branch…just like we see in our yard! I gave Pam the green light and within several weeks she had the piece ready for me.

After hiding it for a month-plus, I presented it on Christmas, about a week before our anniversary, and to say Kim was thrilled would be an understatement. I actually had not seen it myself other than in photos (since Pam had it carefully and securely packed for me) so we both had the exciting experience of seeing it for the first time. It sounds trite, but that old expression about a photo not doing a work of art justice is definitely true.

This very special piece now hangs in our living room window where we can both enjoy it every day. It’s a very fitting memento of our life together, and we cannot recommend Pam’s work more highly. She is an artist first and foremost, but also a realist in dealing with her clients and handling all aspects of a commission project efficiently and expertly.
